New Zealand Tourism Regional Leadership Series

New Zealand Tourism Regional Leadership Series 2011

The Tourism Industry Association (TIA)  was on the road in March and April 2011  to hear members' views on the state of the industry.  With 2011 an election year, this was a chance to relook at the industry’s priorities and for operators to have a say and contribute directly to the Tourism Election Manifesto process.  The road shows were also an opportunity to map out some long term goals for the sector.

Programme

 1. Creating our future - short and long term goals (2 hours 30 minutes)
This will be an interactive session where you will discuss the key priorities, challenges and solutions for the tourism industry.  We will consider:

Short term goals (1-3 years): what the industry sees as priorities in the next three years and what it might expect from an incoming government at the end of 2011?

Long term goals (>3 years): where the industry wants to be in 5,10 or even 20 years time?

2. TIA Insights research and data presentation (30 minutes)
A presentation on the latest local and international tourism data and trends drawn from TIA's Insights work.

3. TIA update (30 minutes)
Find out what TIA has been doing on your behalf in advocacy, policy, membership and events.

A pre-event survey will be sent to attendees so we can identify key issues for discussion ahead of the day.  We would appreciate attendees taking the time to fill out the survey, to maximise the value of the discussions on the day.

Tourism Summit 2011

Both the short and long term goals identified were reported back at the Tourism Summit in Wellington on 13 July.  This prestigious event was attended by party political leaders, including the Deputy Prime Minister, as well as leading business, economic and political commentators.

The outcomes of the Summit will form the basis of the 2011 Tourism Industry Election Manifesto while the longer term goals will be focus for much of TIA’s future advocacy and policy work.
